At times, there will be requirement where business requires leading zero's to be displayed for the GTIN's. In this situation, rather than going for the conversion exit there is a specific config changes to be done to accomplish the requirement. The below highlighted field in the screenshot is required to be maintained with the maximum character length so that if the GTIN is characters are less than the max. length then the rest of missing characters will be displayed with the leading zeros. Ideally, you might come across an issue with business users to display several materials list at once to display mass changes. As this will hit change document tables so if the material field is not maintained, mandatory then performance issue will come up due to that SAP has come up with material number as Mandatory in MM04 but if business users still insist for several materials then SAP has provided a note for the removal fo material number as Mandatory.
